About me
herpetologist • Scientific Editor
Who am I?
I am a herpetologist with a broad interest in the reproductive biology, natural history, and evolution of squamate reptiles.
I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laboratory of Ecology and Evolution (LEEV) at Instituto Butantan (Brazil). I also co-founded and am an active member of the Squamate Reproduction Research Group.
Before joining LEEV, I completed an MSc in Biotechnology and a PhD in Animal Anatomy at the University of Sao Paulo, and a CNPq’s Postdoctoral Fellowship in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney (Australia).
Science
My research focuses mainly on how animals reproduce. I study various reproductive traits phenology, reproductive modes, reproductive output, sexual dimorphism, sexual maturity, and nesting ecology. My overarching goal is to understand how animals’ reproductive patterns are shaped by the environment and evolutionary history. I am also interested in various aspects of the natural history of squamates.
I often combine field and laboratory work and use various research approaches (such as experimentation, and critical literature review) and techniques (such as histology, electron microscopy, and phylogenetic comparative methods).
My current research projects include the evolution of reproductive modes and sperm storage. Although my main study models are snakes and lizards, I am always open to addressing reproductive topics in other animal models.
I enjoy doing collaborative research, and I have had the opportunity to work with several researchers around the world. I have also supervised, co-supervised, and mentored many undergrad and graduate students.
Scientific Editing
After two years as a postdoc in Australia, I returned to Brazil in 2017 and started helping my lab colleagues to overcome the language barrier by editing their scientific manuscripts.
In 2019, I designed and implemented a freelance editorial business with a mission to help authors publish their work in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
Since then, I have worked on over 100 projects, providing customers with language editing, proofreading, data analysis, formatting, and manuscript submission support through online submission systems.
